And when choosing the hotel, my main concern was location! location! location!! Because I knew that I would be out all the time, out looking for a place to live in daytime and out having a drink with friends at night. Yes, it didn't matter to me how little the place maybe, as long as it was within the walking distance of Lan Kwai Fong.
So I found this little place on Booking.com which was locating right next to the Lan Kwai Fong so I thought this is it!!
If it wasn't for the crazy raining day, my first impression of the hotel would have been better. The robby was clean, neat, very modern and even pretty.
But unfortunately, it was raining really hard and I couldn't but notice one big flaw. There are stairs instead of escalator (or elevator) on your way to robby without any eaves to avoid the rain. If your suitcase is big and you need your both hands to carry it on the stairs, you have no hand for umbrella. And there absolutely is nobody to help you with your luggages. Fortunately for me, there was a guest smoking outside the lobby who offered to help me.
And this was because I took a cab to the hotel. If you are thinking of carrying your luggage from the Central / Hong Kong station, please think otherwise because this hotel is on the hill and are so many stairs (or you have to go around to the opposite side of the hill.) In fact, the next day when I was coming back from a lunch date with a friend, I found a couple not knowing what to do in front of crazy stairs to get to the hotel. They knew it was the right way, but they just could not carry their heavy luggage up the stairs.
And when I got into the room, I was so shocked at the size of the room. To be fair, it was exactly same as the picture on the website, but pictures always make it look bigger and prettier I think. I mean, it was shocking that one could have such a little room renting out to people. (by this time, I was not aware of how small the rooms can be in Hong Kong) And I almost felt claustrophobia (this is not normal for me.)
By the second night, when I was a little bit used to the small room, the fire alarm began to ring out of sudden. It was crazy, I was on the 13th floor and the elevator was not working and I certainly could not go down through the stairs because it was too small and hot. I was so scared that I just packed my laptop and passport and got on the elevator after 10 min. When I got there, concierge told me that someone has been smoking in the room and there is absolutely nothing to worry about. But was too scared already. I knew that if there actually was a fire, there is nothing you can do in this hotel if you are staying on high level. So I argued with the concierge and I changed the room to 4th floor the next morning where I can always walk down.
Personally, I do not recommend this hotel since I have too many personal bad memories with this hotel. However, if you are looking for a place right near the Lan Kwai Fong with affordable price and somewhere clean? this is the place for you.
And their service was relatively ok and they understood my english.
[Merit]
- Very close to Lan Kwai Fong
- Many bars and restaurants nearby
- Clean and tidy
- Affordable price
[Fault]
- Too small
- Not very safe with fire accident
- No grocery store near by, only the convenient stores (only bars and clubs)
- Stairs on your way to lobby
- On the hill, not easy to arrive with heavy luggages
With Love,
Victoria
